An alpine lake on the border with France, at the foot of Pic Negre. Only 800 meters of trail but with 120 meters of elevation gain — short, intense and with spectacular views of the Grandvalira massif.
La Ruta
The Estany de les Abelletes is one of those lakes that fits in a photograph but not in a description. It straddles Andorra and France, right on the crest of the Grandvalira massif, and to get there you have to climb 120 meters in less than a kilometer — not much distance but with some effort involved.
The route starts from Pas de la Casa, follows the river margins to a water reservoir and from there ascends a forest track to the lake. The water is home to trout and salmon — frequented by anglers in summer. The views of the glacial cirque and the border peaks are the real reward.
A short route that combines perfectly with the ascent to Pic Negre d'Envalira if you want to extend your day. No problem with dogs — open path with no access restrictions.
Localización
It departs from Pas de la Casa, the highest town in Andorra. Take the CG-2 from Encamp to the end — Pas de la Casa is at 2,085 meters. The route is marked from the town with yellow blazes.
