A climb of 350 meters in elevation gain with a reward at the end: Lake Engolasters, at 1,616 meters altitude, with a dam from 1934 and views that justify every step. It starts from Encamp and in less than 2 hours you're up there with your furry friend.
La Ruta
Lake Engolasters is one of the classic hikes in Andorra and one of the best for hiking with a dog. The route starts from the center of Encamp, right across from the Museu de l'Automòbil, and climbs 350 meters along paths and tracks through typical Andorran alpine flora: wild carnations, fir trees and stone bothies that have been here for ages.
When you reach the top, you'll find a 178-meter dam built in 1934 that still supplies water to the capital. The lake itself has that peaceful quality of mountain places that don't need to advertise themselves. In summer, the area also has an adventure park with zip-lines and balance circuits for the little ones.
The route connects with the GR-11, so if you feel like it you can extend your day. With a dog there's no problem: the path is well-marked and the surroundings are perfectly comfortable for any size traveling companion.
Localización
Leave from Encamp following the signs toward Engolasters lake, opposite the Museu de l'Automòbil. The trail is marked from the town center heading south. There is parking available in Encamp.
