Macarulla: Rastros y Huellas

Do you see that footprint? What animal does it belong to? At Els Cortals d'Encamp, at 1,700 meters above sea level, children learn to read the mountain as if it were a book. The 2 km route starts at the crossroads leading to the Pleta dels Orris picnic area and climbs 150 meters of moderate elevation gain through meadows and mountain forest.

The guide notebook (€1 at tourist offices) turns the walk into an expedition: you have to identify seven native animal species, their habitat, their diet, their movements and their traces. All through games and interactive elements designed by local artists.

At the end, the picnic area awaits with views of the Ensagents lakes. And nearby is the Madriu-Perafita-Claror valley, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.
