Torre de Hércules

The Tower of Hercules is a historic monument and UNESCO World Heritage site dating back to the 1st century. It is the oldest functioning lighthouse and the only Roman lighthouse still standing. In fact, historians point out that the ruins of an even older lighthouse, predating the Roman Empire, lie buried underground, beneath the current tower.

The history of this lighthouse is steeped in mythology. Legend has it that Hercules himself buried the head of the giant Gideon at its feet after defeating him.

Art doesn't end at the lighthouse tower. Along the paths leading up to it runs the Sculptural Park, featuring up to 15 sculptures by different 20th-century artists.

Climbing the tower and enjoying the views costs €3 per person, but pets cannot access the interior for safety reasons.

However, the park surrounding the tower is full of trails and picnic areas where you can spend time with your furry friend without any problem. Also, very nearby, before reaching the lighthouse, you'll find Lapas Beach, where you can stroll and even take a swim. That is, as long as they behave themselves.
