El alojamiento

As its name suggests, it's an old hotel, that much is clear from the start. Although you have to weigh the pros and cons, let me tell you:

We stayed for a whole week (7 days, 6 nights) because the price we paid, with half board plus what you pay for Kaira, we weren't going to find anything better. In other words, for less than 500€ the three of us slept, had breakfast and dinner without being apart from our girl.

The staff is super super friendly, they didn't give us any trouble at all, you have to give them credit for that. And of course, we got the room next to the elevator, which lately seems to be the usual when we book with a pet. I can't say if it was a coincidence or if those are the rooms set up for that, the fact is we had to spend a week there with all the noise of people passing by.

As for the rooms, they're old. But look, we weren't expecting to find luxury in a two-star hotel anyway. We went for what we went for, which was to be able to sleep and shower under minimum conditions because we spent the day out on mountain excursions, which is why we were there. I should mention that they were quite clean, maybe a bit more dusty than I would have liked judging by my sneezing, and the bathroom was clean too with all the necessary toiletries.

They also have laundry service which makes longer stays more comfortable.

About the views, well, I was delighted. Our room looked out onto the main road, but there isn't much traffic at night and on the other side you have the river and the mountain, and with the night silence you could hear the water... fantastic, without a doubt.

I also noticed there's a bus stop right there, so if you want to get around by bus it's a very good option, and I understand that in winter with snow and ski slopes operating, there's a bus that takes you to the foot of the slopes (I'd have to look into that more).

About the surroundings (speaking always from my personal perspective) IT'S SPEC-TAC-U-LAR. One of the best we've chosen and I'll tell you why. As I mentioned a few lines above, there's little traffic at night and I'd even say during the day too. You're in the middle of the mountains with little villages around with a rural charm that's absolutely enchanting.

This hotel belongs to the village of La Cortinada, although it's halfway between that and the village of Arans, both part of the Parish of Ordino. And from here, the options for mountain routes are super extensive both on foot and by car. Not to mention that, for example, you have the Ruta del Ferro (Iron Route) practically on your doorstep.

But if what you're looking for is to be close to an urban center with amenities, this isn't the most suitable place. It's about a good 20 minutes from Andorra la Vella, depending on the traffic you encounter crossing the main urban areas, and not counting the time it takes to enter and park in the capital.

Parking

They have free parking out front, sure, but for maybe 6 spots, being generous. If you happen to find them all taken, you'll have to hunt for parking in the village of Arans or who knows where. We left ours parked on a nearby street that goes up to some little houses, but that fills up quickly too and apparently parking on the main road is prohibited.

It's not ideal, but if you don't mind walking a few minutes, parking in Arans is easier. And free, which is pretty hard to come by in Andorra.

Espacios Family-Friendly

As for the little ones in the house, it's not a kid-friendly hotel. Fortunately, we brought some games and activities from home, and there's a foosball table there. And that's it, there's nothing else planned for them.

Restaurante

The restaurant is all-you-can-eat buffet style, for both breakfast and dinner. For breakfast you'll find the usual fare—a continental breakfast. Regular milk and plant-based drinks, juices, bread, cold cuts, fruit, pastries, jams, and so on. There's a toaster if you feel like toasting your bread, and machine coffee. For dinner there's also a buffet with the quality you'd expect from the hotel you're staying in—it's quite good. And there's quite a variety that changes throughout the days.

Since you can't enter the dining room with your dog, they set up a table for you in the bar where you can take your plates, which is nearby. This way you can dine together and don't need to leave them alone in your room. So we really appreciated that gesture. We only had to let them know 10 minutes before we went down to dinner and they'd have the table ready for us.

As for the bar, well, they serve you when they can since most of the staff multitask, and if they're busy at reception or in the restaurant, you'll have to wait for someone to be free at the bar.
